Invata sa asculti!

Learn to listen is a project on awareness rising on the disability issue in Romania. We will realize a media campaign in order to promote the inclusion of disabled persons. Our demarche starts from the human rights perspective and from the premise that all the people are equal and should be valued and respected.

We will involve directly in the campaign eight service users (we’ll realize and broadcast a five minutes film on each of them personal testimony). We’ll try to influence the attitude of the general public regarding the persons with disabilities and promote the good practice example from Timisoara. We will create a web portal, two 30 seconds video-clips, eight personal testimonies, a show on 3rd of December (the international day of persons with disabilities), a monthly talk show (from September to December), an open-door exhibition, leaflets, T-shirts. On 9th of November (the Night of Broken Glass – the international day against fascism) we’ll organize, in Bucharest and Timisoara, a vigil, in order to commemorate the disabled persons, victims of the fascism.

All the materials will be bilingual (English and Romanian), this is the first – out of four – year of the campaign, which is internationally open – Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro.
It is for the first time that such a campaign, with focus on the disability, is organized in Romania. This campaign is financially supported by Open Society Institute, Budapest, Mental Disability Advocay Program.

This project is the first step for the building of barrier free society – both physical and psychological, in order to reach equal opportunities, protection of rights an full participation for the disabled persons.
